Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers’ Canine Connection
Toowoomba is a dog friendly community and we absolutely welcome furry friends at many Carnival parks and events!
A Tail-Wagging Tradition
Who knew a tiny Pomeranian would become such a big part of Carnival history?
Back in 1950, a little Pomeranian named “Puppy” lead the Toowoomba Thistle Pipe Band in the very first Carnival Parade. Wearing a rug in the band’s tartan, Puppy pranced proudly alongside the bagpipers, becoming an instant crowd favourite. This paw-some tradition continued for eight years! The band’s drum major, Mr Hugh Morgan, was Puppy’s owner, and his four-legged mascot helped set the jubilant tone that still defines our celebration today.
A statue commemorating Puppy now stands at Picnic Point (164 Tourist Rd, Toowoomba). You can visit Puppy and take a selfie with one of Carnival’s earliest stars! The bronze memorial overlooks the spectacular Lockyer Valley—a view that’s sure to make both you and your furry friend’s tail wag.
Bring Your Furry Friends to the Flowers!
Our flowers aren’t just for humans! Leashed dogs are welcome in both our feature floral parks (Laurel Bank Park and Queens Park Botanic Gardens) so they can stop and smell the roses too.
Doggy Etiquette
While we love our four-legged visitors, we kindly ask pet parents to remember:
Join us at Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers for some fun with your whole family—including those with four legs! After all, flowers are meant to be enjoyed by everyone, and as Puppy proved all those years ago, sometimes our furry friends appreciate a good garden party just as much as we do!
