TOOWOOMBA! ROLL UP ROLL UP ….

Calling on entrants for the Grand Central Floral Parade: entries close July 1!

And don’t forget the Itty Bitty Parade!

WANT TO STOP TRAFFIC? Organisers of the famous Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers (TCOF) are calling on entrants for the Grand Central Floral Parade, the event that stops traffic in the city in a joyous celebration of all things floral.

Thousands of families and people from all over the country line the city streets to take in the spectacle of the Grand Central Floral Parade, an iconic event of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and one of the biggest regional street parades in the country.

This year the Grand Central Floral Parade will be held on Saturday 17 September, at the earlier time of 10am allowing crowds to enjoy a full day shopping and adventuring across the city. The theme of Reflect, Connect and Sparkle, is a fitting acknowledgement of the challenges of the past two years and a positive nod to the future.

Organisers are reminding the community that APPLICATIONS are NOW OPEN, and close on July 1 …. so if you can paint, colour, twist, twirl, wave, wander, wiggle, stick, stencil, sew, stitch, step, tie, dance, prance and generally LOVE creating, then grab some friends and enter a float or a group or even a marching band!

All parade entry information is HERE

Two wonderful Toowooomba creatives in Anna Battle and Mary-Kate Thompson are our 2022 Parade Creative Advisors, and are ready to guide entrants, support and provide any creative assistance entrants need.

Don’t forget the Itty Bitty Grand Central Floral Parade! A very special version of the iconic street parade takes centre stage in Grand Central every year with “itty bitty” versions of the colourful floats. It’s the perfect way for those perhaps not ready to enter the main parade, to still take part and have some fun. All details HERE

In 2022, TCOF will be headlined by over 190,000 spectacularly blooming plants, flourishing under the hands of Council gardeners. Along with the beautiful blooms, the famous three-day Festival of Food and Wine will be held from 9 to 11 September, showcasing the best in regional produce and Australian music in Queens Park.

Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers – A History

Since its inception in 1949, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers has flourished and is now an iconic Queensland event.  The brainchild of Essex Tait and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, Carnival was introduced as a way for the city to use its “Garden City” reputation to promote increased economic activity following the hardships of war. On 21 October 1950, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers commenced with a street procession that stretched three miles in length. Led by a bullock team and watched by a crowd estimated to be 50,000 strong, it was a resounding success, as it has been ever since.
